One Mathematical Cat, Please! A First Course in Algebra (Offline Version, Download Page)

Free one-click download.  No personal info required.  Keep forever.  No login.  No ads.  No subscriptions.  No internet required.

I (Dr. Carol JVF Burns) created One Mathematical Cat, Please! A First Course in Algebra (here) over about three decades (it all began in 1999). I’m getting old, and want to make sure that my work remains available to the world—even if the online version were to someday disappear.

My solution is an offline-optimized ‘mirror’ of the online version—a single folder that includes everything needed to use the course without an internet connection.

No installers. No executables. Just download and unzip. It will then live on your own computer—completely under your own control—for as long as you choose to keep it. If you decide you don’t want it, then you need only delete one folder. There are no lingering files stashed in weird places.

Also, you can peruse the entire offline course before choosing to download it. Just visit my Offline Algebra I Table of Contents and look around.

There’s a printed book that coordinates with this course—the book and the computer-based lessons are designed to complement and reinforce each other. They each have different strengths. If this work is useful to you, then I would appreciate your purchase of a print copy of the book, so you can see for yourself how the book and computer-based materials work together.

What’s Included?

The download (below) is a single ZIP file containing the complete offline Algebra I course: lessons with practice and worksheets, audio for read-thrus, graphics and fonts, PDFs, MathJax for displaying math, JSXGraph for graphics, and supporting JavaScript/CSS files.

The course works locally in your browser without installation.

The ZIP file is 1.07 GB. When unzipped, the folder is 1.13 GB.

About Download Safety

It’s wise to be cautious about downloading files from the internet. I would feel the same way myself.

This download is offered directly from my long-established educational website, which I’ve personally maintained for decades. I’m a real person, I respond promptly to emails, and the entire offline course may be browsed online before downloading.

Modern web browsers and operating systems already perform significant built-in security checks on downloaded files from normal HTTPS websites. If you wish, you may additionally scan the downloaded ZIP file with your own antivirus software before extracting it.

How to Get and Use the Offline Algebra Course

  1. Download the ZIP file by clicking the button below:

Download the Offline Algebra I Course

  2. Unzip/extract the downloaded file.
  3. Open the extracted folder.
  4. Double-click the file:

    Algebra1_TOC_Offline.htm

You may want to put a shortcut to this file on your desktop for easier access.
  5. Note: Do not move individual files in the folder. The folder structure must stay intact for the course to work properly.

A Final Thought

My hope is that this course will remain useful for many years to come: for students, parents, teachers, homeschoolers, tutors, schools, universities, and math learners throughout the world.

The internet changes constantly. Websites disappear. Companies come and go. But a folder sitting on your own computer is wonderfully stable.

If you choose to download this course, then you’ll always have your own complete copy that is fully under your control.
