keying in absolute value functions on the TI-83 calculator

To key in  |expression|  on the TI-83, use the following key sequence:

1. Press MATH to call up the MATH menu.
2. Use the right-arrow key to select NUM. This gives a collection of operations that act on NUMbers.
3. The first item, abs(, is the absolute value function. You can select this by either pressing ENTER, or by pressing the number 1.
4. Key in the desired expression.
5. Insert a closing parenthesis, ).
6. Press ENTER to complete!
